Online ordering

Online ordering is your own ordering page, on your own domain or an OrderUp one. Orders placed there arrive on the till like any other order and route to the kitchen the same way.

Setup

  1. Switch it on in Management → Settings.
  2. Check your hours. Online ordering runs on its own hours, which can differ from your dining-room hours.
  3. Check your menu's channel flags. Anything switched off for online ordering will not appear — see Channel visibility.
  4. Set a prep time. This drives the time a guest is promised.
  5. Take a test order. Put a real order through and watch it reach the kitchen.

What the guest gets

A menu, a cart, and checkout. Payment is taken up front, at checkout, before the kitchen sees the order.

That up-front charge changes how the order closes. Because the money is already collected, the order does not wait for a payment at the end — it closes once the kitchen is done and the promised window has passed.

Order flow

Guest checks out → paid immediately
→ order appears on the till and the kitchen display
→ kitchen prepares
→ marked ready at the promised time
→ completed after the pickup window

The ready and complete steps run on a clock, so an online order does not sit open all day because nobody remembered to close it.

Your own domain

Online ordering can run on a custom domain. Until a site is published, a custom domain and a slug-based site both return not-found — so a link that "works for me" and 404s for a guest usually means the site is configured but unpublished.
