Delivery marketplaces

OrderUp connects to delivery marketplaces through a single integration, so one menu publish reaches all of them and orders arrive on your till in one format.

Brands​

A brand is a marketplace-facing identity. Most restaurants have one. A ghost kitchen might run five out of the same kitchen — five brands, five marketplace storefronts, one set of equipment.

Each brand carries the identifier the marketplaces use to route an order to you. That identifier is assigned once and never reassigned: it is the only thing an inbound order carries that says which restaurant it belongs to.

Scoping which menu a brand publishes​

A brand publishes a selection of your menu, not necessarily all of it. You choose which top-level groups the brand offers.

Three states, and they are not interchangeable:

Marketplaces interpret an empty menu as an instruction to take your storefront down. OrderUp refuses to publish an empty selection for that reason. If a publish is refused, fix the selection — do not work around it.

Note that a selection is a reachability rule, not a filter on top-level groups alone: choosing Dinner publishes Dinner and everything nested inside it.

Price on marketplaces​

Marketplace prices are commonly set higher than in-house to absorb commission. Price is the one thing that can genuinely differ per marketplace; the menu itself cannot, because the integration publishes one menu per store.

Inbound orders​

A marketplace order arrives on your till as a normal order, marked with its source. Two things differ:

  • The phone number is a relay line, not the guest. Do not text it. OrderUp will not send guest messages to marketplace orders for this reason.
  • The order is already paid. Like online ordering, it closes on a clock rather than waiting for a payment.

Going live checklist​

  1. Brand created and connected to the marketplace
  2. Menu selection set — not empty
  3. Menu published, and the items verified in the marketplace's own app
  4. A test order placed and watched through to the kitchen
  5. Prep times set realistically
