DoorDash
DoorDash integration brings your DoorDash orders straight into the POS, keeps your DoorDash menu in lockstep with your OrderUp menu, and lets your line treat third-party orders exactly like a dine-in or takeout ticket.
Status: the DoorDash integration is a planned feature in the OrderUp Integrations Hub. Once it ships in your account, follow the steps below to connect. If it isn't visible yet under Settings → Restaurant Settings → Operations → Integrations, contact your account manager for the rollout schedule.
Two ways DoorDash works with OrderUp
DoorDash has two products, and you might use one, the other, or both.
- DoorDash Marketplace. Customers find you on the DoorDash app, place an order, and a Dasher delivers it. You pay a commission per order. This is the classic third-party delivery flow.
- DoorDash Drive (Storefront / on-demand delivery). Your guest orders directly through your OrderUp online ordering site, and you call a Dasher to deliver it. No DoorDash commission per order — you pay a flat delivery fee. The customer relationship stays with you.
The integration supports both. You configure which products are active when you connect.
Connecting your DoorDash account
- Open Settings → Restaurant Settings → Operations → Integrations in the management app.
- Find the DoorDash card and click Connect.
- A DoorDash authorization window opens. Sign in with your DoorDash Merchant account (the one tied to the store you're connecting). If you have multiple stores, you'll be prompted to pick which store maps to this OrderUp restaurant.
- Approve the permissions DoorDash asks for: menu publishing, order receipt, order status updates.
- The window closes and the integration card flips to Connected with the linked store name.
If you don't already have a Merchant account or you can't see your store in the picker, finish onboarding with DoorDash first, then return to OrderUp.
Menu sync
Sync flows in one direction: OrderUp → DoorDash. Your OrderUp menu is the source of truth.
When you save a menu change in OrderUp, the integration:
- Translates the OrderUp item, modifier, and category structure into DoorDash's menu schema.
- Applies your DoorDash markup (see below).
- Pushes the updated menu to DoorDash.
- Surfaces any sync errors back in the integrations page (item missing a description, category structure too deep, image too small).
You can force a manual resync from the DoorDash card → Sync Menu Now. Use this after a large reorganization or if DoorDash hasn't picked up a recent change.
Pricing strategy: third-party markup
DoorDash takes a commission on every Marketplace order, and most operators don't want to absorb that hit on dine-in pricing. The integration lets you mark up your DoorDash menu independently of your in-house menu.
Configure under Settings → Restaurant Settings → Operations → Integrations → DoorDash → Pricing:
- Flat markup percentage (e.g., +15% across the board).
- Per-category markup (heavier markup on cocktails than entrées).
- Per-item override (specific items priced differently for delivery).
Your in-house POS prices stay untouched. Only the menu pushed to DoorDash carries the markup. Guests on DoorDash see the marked-up price; guests on your direct site or in your dining room see the regular price.
Order acceptance and prep
When a DoorDash order comes in:
- The order appears on the POS in the Incoming Orders queue with a DoorDash badge.
- The POS makes a sound (configurable per device) and shows a manager prompt.
- Tap Accept with an estimated prep time. Tap Reject with a reason if you can't fulfill (out of an item, too busy, closed).
- Once accepted, the order routes to your kitchen printers and KDS just like any other order, with "DoorDash" labeled on the ticket.
- When the order is ready, mark it Ready for Pickup. DoorDash dispatches or notifies the Dasher.
Status updates push back to DoorDash automatically: accepted, in-prep, ready, completed.
Common issues
- Connect asks you to pick a brand first. If your restaurant runs more than one brand (Settings → Restaurant Settings → Operations → Brands — common for ghost kitchens), you'll be asked which brand this DoorDash connection belongs to before the authorization window opens. Choose carefully: that assignment becomes permanent and can't be changed without disconnecting and reconnecting.
- Menu didn't sync. Open the integration card and check the Last Sync status. Errors show inline. The most common: an item is missing a description, an image is below DoorDash's minimum dimensions, or a category has more than five levels of nesting.
- Order didn't print. Check that the order's prep station is mapped to a printer (Settings → POS → Printers). Third-party orders use the same routing as in-house orders.
- Wrong price on DoorDash. Verify your markup configuration and force a resync. If the wrong price persists, the cached menu on DoorDash's side may need 5–10 minutes to refresh.
- Can't accept orders. Check that the device receiving orders is online, the integration status is Connected, and your DoorDash store status is Open in DoorDash's merchant portal.
