Coursing and firing
Coursing tells the kitchen when to cook something, not just what. Starters now, mains when the table is ready.
Courses
Every item can carry a course — Starter, Main, Dessert, or whatever
your restaurant uses. Courses are configured in
Management → Menu, and an item's course can be overridden per order on the
till.
Sending vs firing
- Send puts the order into the kitchen. Items in the first course start cooking; later courses are held.
- Fire releases a held course to the kitchen.
A table's second course therefore reaches the line when the server says so, rather than the moment the order was rung in.
Firing a course
On the order screen, choose the course and fire it. The kitchen display and any kitchen printer receive the course as a new ticket, marked as a fire rather than a new order — so the line knows this is the table they already have.
Coursing and order type
Coursing is a dine-in behaviour. Takeout and delivery orders are normally prepared in one go, so courses on those order types are typically ignored. Check your own configuration in Management → Settings before relying on it either way.
When a fire does not reach the kitchen
- Is there a kitchen destination for that course? A course with no prep station or printer routed to it has nowhere to go.
- Is the kitchen display online? See Kitchen display.
- Is the printer reachable? See Printers and chits.
