Printers and chits

A chit is a kitchen ticket. Chits print to the printer configured for the item's prep station.

What prints

  • Order chit — when an order is sent
  • Fire chit — when a held course is released
  • Void notice — when a sent item is removed, so the line stops cooking it

Printer setup

Printers are configured in Management, and each is associated with the prep stations that route to it. One printer can serve several stations.

See Printers for the hardware and network side.

When a chit does not print

Work through it in this order — the causes are ordered by how often they are the answer:

  1. Is the item routed to a station? An unrouted item prints nowhere.
  2. Is the station pointed at a printer? A station with no printer is the same failure one level up.
  3. Is the printer online? Check the device list in Management.
  4. Is the in-store gateway online? Printing goes through the gateway; if it is offline, jobs queue rather than fail. See Network and the gateway.
  5. Paper.
A queued job is not a lost job

If the gateway was offline, jobs generally print once it returns. Before re-sending an order, check whether the original is about to arrive — re-sending is how a kitchen ends up cooking a table's food twice.
