Your devices

Every till, printer, card reader and gateway in your restaurant appears in Management → Devices.

Two different things called "status"

The device list shows two kinds of information and they update on different clocks:

  • Registration — what the device is. Its name, the restaurant it belongs to, what it is allowed to do. This changes rarely, and only when someone changes it.
  • Reported state — what the device is doing right now. Online or offline, which app version it is running, when it last checked in. This flows from the device itself.

When these two disagree, the reported state is the truth. A device showing an old version in one place and a new one in another is reporting the new one.

Adding a till

  1. Install the POS app on the device.
  2. Register it against your restaurant from the device.
  3. Approve it in Management → Devices.
  4. Assign it a name people will recognise — Bar 1, Server station 2.

Name tills for where they physically are. Debugging "till 3 is offline" is much easier when till 3 is a place.

Offline devices

A device that has stopped checking in shows as offline. Before treating it as broken:

  1. Is it powered and awake?
  2. Is it on the right network?
  3. Is the gateway up? If the in-store gateway is down, several devices go quiet at once — which is the tell. See Network and the gateway.

Updates

Tills update on a schedule you control. A device shows the version it is actually running, which is the number to trust when checking whether a fix has reached the floor.
